We all woke up late today. And it was sunny. Do you know what that means? It means no school. It means letting kids play and do as they will, until deciding to get in the car and see friends. And go to the library. Would you believe that our library system has the 1996 version of the Betty Crocker Cookbook? Now I have my fudge recipe back.
Speaking of school, it is beyond cool having two good readers to teach. I can assign them books! Both of them! How cool is that? I've got Connor reading a Landmark book about the Revolutionary War. Aidan just finished George the Drummer Boy and Sam the Minuteman. I love having two kids who read. I can only imagine how fun it will be to have four kids who read.
Once they all read, we can all just learn together. I know, I know, some of you do that with non-readers and small children anyway. Kudos to you. When mine all read, I plan to spend my mornings at the kitchen table working on my Latin, my great books reading, my art, my education. I'll spend my own time on the piano. I'll invite them all to join me, to discuss with me, and do much more leading by example. I envision us remaining as structured as we are until they can all read fluently and write with a basic level of competence, and then turning to more of a A Thomas Jefferson Education-type education.
But for now we'll plug along with structured work, and chasing after the preschoolers.
I just got my copy of Memoria Press' new Ludere Latine, which is a book of activities to accompany Latina Christiana I. It's all crossword puzzles, find-a-word puzzles, and hangman. I think Connor is disappointed at the lack of diversity. I like the crossword puzzles, though. The clues are well thought out and will make the kid think. I'm going to buy the LC I DVDs and we're going to review from the beginning, watching the lessons and doing the games. I'm also going to have him decline or conjugate every word in the vocabularies.
Me? I've finally punched through Henle's Unit Four, and am halfway through Unit Five! My goal is to get through Unit Seven by September; at this rate, that will be easy.
Many of you are posting pictures of your kids hunting eggs. Me, I can't find the camera. When I do, I'll post my own. We did our egg hunt the week before Easter, of course, on the Equinox.
That will conclude my rambling for this evening. How many of you are reading this, anyway?

Well I am, now that i know where you are. Sheesh. It's our own personal Where's Waldo, er you.
Anyway, thanks for the peek into MP's new activity book. John wouldn't like it, but James would love, love, love it!
I'm right there w/ you on the continum of learning once they're all proficient readers. Mmmm, that's going to be fun.
Glad to know you're all still alive and blogging, even with the server of death giving you a hard time.
