Okay, let's see ... we suspended regular school on the 3rd, to do 4th of July activities. Connor made a book about the Fourth, with a short narrative about the Revolutionary War and colored pages of American symbols. We had a long discussion about the Revolutionary War and the Declaration. Later Aidan and I put together several of his body puzzles.
We've also been listening to a great deal of Wee Sing America
Connor did a worksheet on magic number squares, but he didn't really get it. We'll have to come back to that. Started work with D'Nealian handwriting. So far he likes it much better than Zaner-Bloser.
We took off school for the rest of the week for social activities, fireworks, etc.
Today we did handwriting, phonics and history. We read through Chapter 3 in SOTW, and also read selections from Kingfisher history about the discovery and colonization of America.
Books we've read in the last few days:
Go Away, Big Green Monster! - Emberley
Dandelions (science)
Life Cycles - Pillbugs (science)
The Magic School Bus about computers (science)
Selections from Bennett's Children's Book of America (citizenship/history) (The Alamo, General Lee and the Wounded Soldier, and John Henry)
Stop Train Stop a Thomas the Tank Engine book
Tales from a comic book version of Greek Mythology
Sunday Connor, Jeff and Brian played Brittania, a game about the early history and conquest of Britain. (Connor: "Now, I know why they were called Picts! It's because they picked on people!")
