A breakthrough of sorts, today.
Connor realized that we had "school", and it was FUN! Geez. I think he's also chosen a name for our homeschool, finally: The Magic Homeschool (after The Magic Schoolbus). Funny, but I can't say it's not appropriate!
So what we did for school today: over the weekend I went out and got a couple of cheap workbooks, one phonics and one math. They both start out below his ability level, but work up to it (phonics) and beyond (math). He likes doing the easy stuff. He did several pages in the phonics book today, and a couple in the math (the math involved writing numbers, and he doesn't like to write much - pretty typical for a boy his age). I think letting him do the easier work for awhile will boost his confidence and help him to approach "school" with a better attitude. And it makes for a more "traditional" school day, weirdly enough. But he likes workbooks. Go figure.
Aidan wanted to join in, so I gave him his workbook on capital letters. He went through the book and "Xed" all the pictures. He likes to X things.
Then we read Atlantis: The Legend of a Lost City by Christina Balit, as part of the history tie-in with Crete.
Now they're watching a Magic School Bus video. One of the ones about dinosaurs.
